vail
VAIL is a mobile app that provides users access to local assistance on home projects. Whether it’s for renovation, party preparation, and/or lawn maintenance, VAIL provide you assistance on site. I decided to design an app with this concept because my father and uncle are people who are constantly doing home projects for themselves and for others and often times they are working on these physically demanding tasks alone. I wanted to provide them a tool that they would hypothetically be able to use for future projects to make things easier.
personas
Understanding the target audience allows me design a product that fulfills their needs. In my user persona, I have an understanding of the average lifestyle my audience faces. With VAIL, I must consider both sides lifestyle when imagining this app as the idea depends on their needs and providing them a way achieve their goals.
planning
Through the IA map and User Journey, I am able to consider the process of going through the app. As new users utilize the smartphone application, their experience must be considered in order to design an accessible user interface.
process
After thorough research and planning, it’s finally time to develop VAIL. Coming into the design process, I kept in mind accessibility, as well as intuitiveness, without straying too far into my creativity. Through the guidance of my professor, I knew it wasn’t ideal to “reimagine the wheel” as users have a tougher time getting to know something completely new, rather than a new app with similar functions. The app is meant to be fun and encouraging, but it has to be accessible.
current version
After several critiques from my peers and iterations, VAIL’s current design was made. The current version consists of a homepage clean up, a more intuitive and function selection process, as well as a thoroughly considered user interface for a fluid user experience. Users are provided the several opportunity to adjust their selections prior to going through the submission process.
